About NKC

Nottingham Kayak Club was founded by Alan Witham in the 1960s from ex-members of the Peveril School Canoe Club.  Some of those original members are still paddling & helping run our sessions today. Others are still involved in canoeing as officials.

Early premises were under the Gresham Hotel on the banks of the Nottingham Canal, near to Midland Station and Broadmarsh.

The club moved to the current site with a wooden shed and club boats racked on outdoor wooden racks.

While this was being replaced, the club moved into an old mobile office caravan with 2 tiny compartments for changing rooms about where the outside V racks are.

Meanwhile the current building was constructed on the site.

Much of the work inside was done by NKC club members
