Worcester Hasler Race

With good weather, Dave driving the mini bus & several good results to NKC, Worcester was an enjoyable day out. Most people were happy with their individual results, but most importantly the team effort meant that we finished 3rd overall in the points.

Having Dave as driver made the whole day easier for the rest of us.

Division 4 was a good field, with Rex, Graham & Norman all competing. A good result for Rex, finishing 2nd

With the higher divisions racing, Tadek had plenty of help to get him on the water for the Lightning race. 18 competitors across the different catagories made it the best Midlands Region Lightning event so far this year.

A very good result from Tadek, coming first in his class & scoring 10 points in the Lightning competion.

Worcester Assessment race

From the NKC point of view the premiere event was the Women's K2 with Vicky & Hayleigh racing.











They finished 2nd to Anna Hemmings & Louisa Sawers of Elmbridge who were well clear of the rest.

















The battle for 2nd & 3rd places was decided in the last few metres with Becky Schofield & Fay Lamph 3rd & Frankie Negus with Nicky Taylor only a few seconds down on them.

Lightnings & Beginners

It was cool & blustery for the Friday evening session. Several Lightning paddlers again chose Round the Bridges, while the rest went for a paddle down past TS Orion. This week, going fast was on some people's minds & after shortening the downstream bit, Laura, Tadek, Ricky & Ben chose to have a go at Round the Bridges. It was the first time for some of them.
For a Friday, the river had been unusually busy with rowers. 2 eights going fairly fast, side by side, chose the same moment to pass under Trent Bridge, that the Lightnings plus a junior were trying to negociate the turn round the bridge. The result was increased times while they waited for the eights, with the exception of Ricky, who had already managed to turn. The rowers have obviously changed their routine, as this is a fairly rare occurence for Friday's.
It was good to have so many down despite slightly less than ideal conditions.

Round the Bridges 27 April '07

Tonight's round the bridges were interesting, with quite a strong wind, and most people's times slower than the usual for the last few weeks. My round the bridges were eventful, first clipping my paddles on the wall of the bridges, then having to stop for 2 eights that were coming under the bridge at the same time. Neither turns were particularly pleasant either. But the good news is that there was qute a few paddlers down, although perhaps not as many as last week.

Clifton Time Trial

Conditions were calm & mild this week, which could account for the number of people doing the time trial. The 11 minute start was probably the biggest & were joined along the way by a variety of faster & slower paddlers, making quite an interesting group in the later stages with a variety of good washes on offer. Good to see Micky Mason out there again on his all too short visit to Nottingham, although he'll be around for a few weeks this time. The numbers were also boosted by the Leicester juniors going as well as ever. Keith was up at Clifton to see the turn & back at the club by the finish. There were several PBs again, particularly amongst the juniors.

Only 2 paddlers did Beth Cs session, which meant plenty of one to one technique for them. The rest of the juniors did the time trial.

Kat, Gilly, Alex & JH were also down at the club. All in all, the busiest club night so far this season.
