It was a crisp sunny morning for the Big Water Classic K2 Time Trial.
A few "motley crews" turned out including one from Solihull club. A few K1s were along for a pleasant paddle. The water lived up to its billing and could be regarded as "Big." The boats appeared up the canal and portaged on to the Trent for the leg round Barton Island, before portaging back onto the river below the weir.
Most crews managed without problems although one seemed to have difficulty with route finding, portaging down on the wrong side of the river. The Solihull crew investigated the possibilities of tree climbing from the river side of the tree and succeeded in turning the event into a triathlon.
The K1s including Tom from Solihull all negotiated the course without incident.

Ironbridge 2013
The thing about Ironbridge is that everyone has a story to tell, whether they watched or paddled! In Kath's case, she was so engrossed in the action at Jackfield Rapid that she forgot to keep pressing the button, but she captured a few club members going through.

Pat

In Kasia's case it was her first and well deserved win in Div 9. NKC members managed to collect quite a few of the coveted Ironbridge Tankards, with another win going to Dave & Caroline in Div 5_5 K2. For all NKC successes, the official results will be available soon on the Marathon Website.
More super pictures from Grace on the Burton Racing Photography group on Facebook and Louise's video from Jackfield on You Tube.
In my case it was old age and forgetfulness: Time to get on the water, oops no spraydeck ... quick back to the car ... oops no car, Kath's gone already!
Oh well, who needs a spraydeck anyway?

The combination of one of George's faithful old Blazer's and an equally old Lendal footpump was all that was needed to make up for the lack!

Shropshire Paddlesport Hasler Race
Only 4 paddlers from NKC went to Queen's Head in Shropshire to race on one of the narrowest and most picturesque course in the Midlands. We all came away with a mug and 77 points between us.
In the 4 mile race, there can be little doubt how much Mick and Kath enjoyed themselves even if they did only get a group of little girls to race against! Just look at the picture of them finishing. You can't tell me that Kath is just "out for a bit of a paddle!"
Congratulations to Robbie for getting promoted - following the NKC recent Div 4 tradition of turning the race into a triathlon and still winning and getting promoted.
Dave also had an interesting tussle with Phil from Gailey, leaving the young lads in Div 3 far behind. He did look fairly weary as he came to the finish just in 2nd place.
